Louisiana State University Recreation & Athletic Facilities
>> Wednesday, Nov. 18 | 7:30AM-4:30PM
ABC heads to Baton Rouge to tour LSU’s University Recreation (UREC) expansion, the recreation field complex and several athletics buildings.
We’ll first see how LSU’s UREC is expanding and redesigning its footprint while still providing its students, members and guests with the services and amenities they desire. The original rec center, built in 1992, is undergoing a massive $84.75 million renovation that will introduce an additional 136,177 square feet to the current 121,000-square-foot facility. The expansion and redesign includes aquatic facilities (including a 536-foot lazy river that will spell out the letters LSU), a challenge course, an outdoor adventure center, a climbing wall, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, cardio and weights areas, group fitness rooms and more.
The next stop will be the recently renovated UREC Field Complex, which features four lighted softball fields and eight multipurpose lighted fields. Following this, we’ll head to the athletics facilities and have lunch in the Lawton Trophy Room. After lunch, we’ll see a brief video introduction of LSU Athletics, and then be enthralled as you enter Tiger Stadium and take a look at the new south addition. After Tiger Stadium, we’ll visit the $15 million Basketball Practice Facility, which opened in 2010, and the Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field, LSU’s baseball facility that opened in 2009.

Health Clubs Tour
>> Wednesday, Nov. 18 | 8:30AM-4:15PM
Join ABC as we tour three very different health clubs – ranging in style from family fitness to luxurious elegance to historic – and learn how each caters to its members in the most creative ways imaginable. We start by taking a 40-minute drive to Slidell, where we will tour the main Cross Gates Family Fitness location.
After a devastating fire in 1996, Cross Gates Family Fitness was rebuilt as a 70,000-square-foot family-oriented facility with two distinct sides: one housing an impressive Youth Activity Center and a court complex, and the other housing expansive fitness and wellness areas, racquetball courts and the Steele Street Café. Outdoors are 10 tennis courts and four pools. Click on photo at right for more photos, or see a video of Cross Gates.
Our next stop is the Stone Creek Club & Spa (left) in Covington. Stone Creek combines world-class fitness, swimming and tennis facilities with a luxurious spa in a resort-style atmosphere. Service reigns supreme in this club, which includes spacious fitness areas, adult-only locker rooms, 15 tournament-quality tennis courts, a salt-water lap pool and zero-depth pool, a gym, a full-service café and a 4,500-square-foot spa. Click on photo at left for more photos, or see a video of Stone Creek.
Returning to New Orleans, take a step back in history at the New Orleans Athletic Club (right). Established in 1872, the NOAC is the second oldest club in the United States. Steeped in tradition, the club includes a variety of exercise rooms (including a group exercise area in the ballroom), a pool, track, boxing ring, rooftop yoga studio and a museum displaying early weight equipment. Many artifacts adorn the walls of the club, which also has a library, bar, salon and barbershop. (Wear comfortable shoes; there are 87 stairs on the NOAC tour).
