MFA Preconference Workshops

NSPF® Certified Pool-Spa Operator® Training
Monday, Dec. 1 & Tuesday, Dec. 2, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
(Available as a Two-day course or a One-day Fusion course on Dec. 2)

Two-Day Course: The Certified Pool-Spa Operator Training (CPO) is a two-day class and will be offered for the first time during the MFA conference. Course topics include pool and spa chemistry, testing, treatment, filtration, maintenance, and government requirements. The CPO certification program requires an open-book written examination. Upon successful completion of the course, the CPO certification is valid for 5 years.

One-Day Course: A one-day Pool Operator Fusion class is a convenient and economical way to achieve CPO certification. The Fusion class requires advance online completion of the Pool Operator Primer course within six months. Attend the Fusion course on December 2nd to review and sit for the exam. Splash! Liquid Fusion: Dive Into Blended Program Ideas
Wednesday, Dec. 3, 9:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
In this aquatic workshop, you'll explore class formats to mix and match exercises creating a fusion approach. Discover progressions that blend the essence of cycling, pumping iron, kick-boxing or practicing yoga as they are designed for various levels of physical function - physically independent, fit or elite. Shake up your classes with new class formatting ideas that blend the essence of land-based activity — liquefied — for a fusion of fun, effective splash training in the pool.

You'll learn how to:
  • Experience how a fusion class design approach applies to water exercise formatting.
  • Identify and apply a class blueprint that provides a mix-and-match format for class design.
  • Practice individualized progressions that target three levels of adult physical ability.

Post-Conference Sessions

Option 1: Attendees who successfully complete this instructor training are authorized as American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) Basic Instructors and may conduct skills assessment sessions for CPR/AED for the Community and Workplace (adult, child, and infant); CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer (adult, child, infant); CPR/AED for Coaches; Basic First Aid; and Complete Emergency Care (includes CPR/AED, Basic First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens and Emergency Oxygen in one course).

Option 2: Complete Emergency Care is the first and only emergency care training course developed specifically for physical activity professionals. The course is scenario-based and asks attendees to put themselves in the role of the rescuer. An attendee who successfully completes both the self-study component and the instructor-led training skills assessment earns certification in CPR/AED (adult, child and infant), First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens and Emergency Oxygen.
Note: An on-line course must be completed in advance of either of these workshops. Course fees and materials are included in the workshop fees below.
